Natural Dyes

I started by reverse dying second hand black garments using string tying techniques. After exhausting that process I went to the Dharma Trading Company in San Rafael and saw the selection of natural dyes & all the other materials that go into creating custom dyed clothing. I was still up cycling garments but bought a few new items from Dharma. The first vats I made were Indigo but moved on to Madder, Chochineal, Annatto & combinations.
I was still using tying techniques but also experimented with simple Shibori. I also use varied objects as stencils to create mandalas and symbolic images. My goal is to do a full size run of select designs to give more people of different sizes an opportunity to own one of the garments.
